JOB SUMMARY:
A Combo Welder is responsible for performing a wide range of welding tasks, utilizing various welding techniques, including MIG (Metal Inert Gas), TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), Stick, and Flux Core. They work with different materials such as steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and other metals to join, fabricate, and repair parts and structures. This position requires proficiency in both welding and cutting methods, often working with blueprints or technical drawings to ensure the accuracy and quality of the work.
Essential Functions:
· Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions
· Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits
· Lay out, positon, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers
· Examine work pieces for defects and measure with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications
· Recognize, set up and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment
· Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods
· Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
· Knowledge of arithmetic
· Operate welding machines
· Lay out, fits and welds fabricated, cast, and forged components to assemble structural forms, such as tanks, pressure vessels, furnace shells, and within all heavy construction
· Knowledge of welding and metallurgy (SMAW,FCAW, GTAW, GMAW, SAW)
· Welds metal components together to fabricate or repair products
· Perform daily maintenance and safety checks
· Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
· Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
Required Skills/Abilities:
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written with co-workers, and supervisors.
• Adhere to strict safety standards and procedures
• Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and drawings
• Must have knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in construction
Education and Experience:
• High School Diploma or GED required
• Must have 3 years’ experience as a welder
• Must pass a weld test (stick, tig, sub-arc, flux core, or mig)
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas
· Ability to bend, stoop, twist, and crouch in tight spaces or awkward positions, often when working on large or complex projects.
· Good eyesight to inspect welds for quality and defects and read blueprints or schematics. This may include the ability to distinguish colors (for identifying the correct materials or types of welds).
· Ability to operate job related tools
· Constantly perform repeating motions that may include feet, leg, wrists, hands and/or fingers
· Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help
• Working at heights
