Job Summary:

Position of Cement Finisher is a skilled craft that smooths and finishes surfaces of poured concrete, such as sidewalks, roads, or curbs using a variety of hand and power tools.

Essential Functions:

  • Aligns forms for sidewalks, curbs, or putters; path voids, and use saws to cut expansion joints
  • Check the forms that hold the concrete to see that they are properly constructed
  • Seth the forms that hold concrete to the desired pitch and depth, and align them
  • Spread, level and smooth concrete using rake, shovel, hand or power trowel, hand or power screed, and float
  • Monitor how the wind, heat, or cold affect the curing of the concrete throughout the entire process
  • Mold expansion joints and edges, using edging tolls, jointers, and straightedge
  • Knowledge of arithmetic
  • Measure, cut, or shape wood, plastic, metal pipes, and other materials
  • Build scaffolds and create and set forms for pouring concrete
  • Inspect, clean, maintain and repair equipment
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Must have 3 years’ experience as a cement finisher

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written with co-workers, and supervisors.
  • Adhere to strict safety standards and procedures
  • Must have knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to twist, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, and crouch as required to perform essential functions for extended periods of time.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help.
  • Be able to work in extreme weather conditions, hot and cold weather.
