JOB SUMMARY

The electrical apprentice2 needs to assist the electrician with installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Gather tools and supplies to be used at work site according to instructions
  • Measure, cut, and bend wire and conduit, using measuring instruments and hand tools
  • Trace out short circuits in wiring, using test meter
  • Strip insulation from wire ends, using wire stripping pliers, and attach wires to terminals for subsequent soldering
  • Examine electrical units for loose connections and broken insulation and tighten connections, using hand tools
  • Construct controllers and panels, using power drills, drill presses, taps, saws, and punches
  • Assists in lifting, positioning, or fastening objects, such as wiring, conduit, and motors
  • Perform minor repairs such as replacing fuses, light sockets, bulbs, and switches
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks
  • Ensure compliance of all safety procedures and policies while promoting company’s safety culture
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • At least 2 to 3 years’ experience in electrical apprentice
  • Electrical apprentice license

 

SKILLS / KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in construction
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgement when handling day to day information
  • Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities
  • Ability to work cooperatively across all levels delivering on commitments – results oriented
  • Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet department targets and deadlines
  • Ability to work non-routine hours, when necessary
  • Ability and willingness to travel as required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
  • Ability to operate job related tools
  • Constantly perform repeating motions that may include feet, leg, wrists, hands and/or fingers
  • Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help
