JOB SUMMARY

The Instrument Technician installs, repairs, maintains, inspects, and calibrates indicating, recording, telemetering, and controlling instruments used to measure and control variables such as pressure, flow, temperature, motion, fore and chemical composition, using precision instruments and hand tools.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, isometric drawings, P&IDs, engineering instructions, and manufacturing instructions
  • Install or remove transmitters, transducers, controllers, positioners, actuators, and other indicating, recording, or controlling instruments
  • Install and calibrate transmitters, transducers, controllers, positioners, actuators, and other recording, indicating, or controlling instruments
  • Cut, bend, and install tubing related to instrumentation
  • Read quality control manuals and testing specifications to obtain data to test or calibrate specific devices
  • Set controls to regulate factors such as current flow, timing cycle, pressure, temperature, or vacuum, according to specifications
  • Reject malfunctioning devices and route to specified departments for rework or salvaging of parts
  • May disassemble the instrument or device to determine the cause of defective operation
  • Ensure compliance of all safety procedures and policies while promoting the company’s safety culture
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned
  • Commissioning, start-up, and or Maintenance of plant facilities.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • At least 4 years’ experience working in Instrumentation
  • Instrumentation-specific education or certification
    • Associates degree
    • NCCER Plus Instrumentation
    • Other

 

SKILLS / KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in construction
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

 

 

  • Sis Testing
  • DCS System Controls
  • Calibrate Pressure, Temperature, Flow, Level Transmitters
  • Set Pressure Switches & Temp & Flow Transmitters
  • Perform Basic Troubleshooting Tasks
  • Calibrate I/P and Control Valves
  • Loop check and Commissioning of Instruments
  • Termination of control systems
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment when handling day-to-day information
  • Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities
  • Ability to work cooperatively across all levels, delivering on commitments – results oriented
  • Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet department targets and deadlines
  • Ability to work non-routine hours, when necessary
  • Ability and willingness to travel as required

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas
  • Ability to climb machinery, ladders, scaffolds, and catwalks
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
  • Ability to operate job related tools
  • Constantly perform repeating motions that may include feet, leg, wrists, hands and/or fingers
  • Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help
