Job Summary:

The Structural Ironworker and Welder will be responsible for raising, placing, and uniting iron or steel girders, columns, and other structural members to form completed structures or structural frameworks.

Essential Functions:

  • Read specifications or blueprints to determine the locations, quantities, or sizes of materials
  • Connect columns, beams, and girders with bolts, following blueprints and instructions from supervisors
  • Bolt aligned structural steel members in position for permanent riveting, bolting, or welding into place
  • Fasten structural steel members to hoist cables using chains, cables, or rope
  • Hoist steel beams, girders, or columns into place, using cranes or signaling hoisting equipment operators to lift and position structural steel members
  • May erect metal storage tanks and assemble prefabricated metal buildings
  • Verifies vertical and horizontal alignment using plumb bob and level
  • Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions
  • Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment
  • Ensure compliance of all safety procedures and policies while promoting safety culture
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned

Education and Experience:

  •  High School Diploma or GED required
  • Must have 3 years’ experience as a structural ironworker
  • Must pass a written test or a welding test

 Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written, with co-workers, and supervisors.
  • Adhere to strict safety standards and procedures
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and drawings
  • Must have knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in construction
  • Knowledge of mathematic functions
  • Working knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to twist, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, and crouch as required to perform essential functions for extended periods of time
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
  • Constantly perform repeating motions that may include wrists, hands and/or fingers
  • Frequently communicate with other members of the team. Must be able to exchange accurate information in a clear manner
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help
  • Be able to work in extreme weather conditions, hot and cold weather.
