Job Summary

The primary duty of the Safety Representative is to provide a safe working environment for company personnel, subcontract personnel, owner personnel and the public working in an industrial facility. The Safety Representative is responsible for promoting all elements of the companies Safety Program with coordination from the Superintendent, Foreman, Project Manager, and the Safety Director.

Essential Functions

  • Communicate with foreman, superintendent and project manager any observed or anticipated safety concerns
  • Prepare for and assist in conducting all weekly safety meetings as scheduled
  • Conduct daily documented safety inspections to identify and correct any hazardous conditions such as noise, toxic and any other noticeable hazards
  • Generate report of findings during tests with recommendations for corrective action
  • Implement and remain familiar with jobsite emergency medical response requirements for dealing with jobsite injuries
  • Maintain all required recordkeeping including all reports related to injuries, accidents and near misses
  • Maintain all environmental issue records including but not limited to safety data sheets (SDS), monitoring test results
  • Maintain all required safety job site postings
  • Inspect properties including but not limited to buildings, industrial operations, vehicles, equipment, and personal protective equipment to evaluate physical conditions, safety practices and identify hazardous situations
  • Analyze history of incidents and inspect areas to determine causes and to develop accident prevention programs
  • Observe field personnel while performing duties and report any laxity in safety precautions
  • Communicate with appropriate field personnel any observed or anticipated safety concerns
  • Investigate accidents or incidents to ascertain causes and report to management
  • Based on findings, recommend solutions to causes, improvement opportunities or new preventive measures and updating safety program
  • Instruct employees on the proper use of safety equipment and safe work methods
  • Inspects specified areas for safety equipment including but not limited to fire prevention equipment, first aid supplies, additional safety equipment
  • Prepares monthly reports and statistical comparisons related to the project’s safety performance
  • Enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety
  • Monitor changes to compliance laws
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends
  • Generate and maintain accurate job aid for duties assigned
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned

Education and Experience Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required. Some college preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience preferred in safety within the construction or petrochemical industry
  • Valid and current certifications in first aid, CPR and OSHA 30 hour (construction preferred)

  • Familiar with all relevant local, state, and federal laws
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
  • Must possess a current and valid driver’s license and be insurable

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently required to use hands and arms, stand, walk, sit, climb, stoop, kneel or crouch
  • Will work in an indoor and outdoor setting
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
  • Ability to operate field equipment (e.g., ladder, shovel)
  • Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery (e.g., calculator, copy machine, printer)
  • Constantly perform repeating motions that may include wrists, hands and/or fingers
  • Work will include moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds
