JOB SUMMARY

The Civil Construction Manager will be responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination, and execution of civil and infrastructure construction projects from mobilization through completion.  The Construction Manger will be responsible for directing day-to-day construction activities, coordinating crews and subcontractors, managing equipment and materials, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with approved plans, specifications, quality standards, and applicable regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Conduct and coordinate land surveying activities to establish site conditions, elevations, boundaries, and construction requirements.
• Review, Develop, and coordinate blueprints and construction drawings for heavy civil projects.
• Review plans and specifications to identify constructability issues, conflicts, and potential changes before and during construction.
• Direct earthwork operations, including excavation, hauling, filling, compaction, and soil placement.
• Manage site grading and leveling to achieve required elevations, slopes, drainage, and soil placement.
• Coordinate the installation of underground utilities, including water, sewer, storm drainage, and related infrastructure.
• Oversee concrete construction, including foundations, slabs, structures, curbs, drainage structures, and other concrete elements.
• Coordinate asphalt paving operations, including preparation, placement, compaction, and quality control.
• Supervise the assembly and installation of structural elements in accordance with approved plans, specifications, and safety requirements.
• Direct and manage daily field operations on heavy civil construction projects.
• Plan and coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and site logistics.
• Develop and maintain project schedules and ensure productions milestones are achieved.
• Supervise foreman, operators, laborers, subcontractors, and other field personnel.
• Monitor production rates, crew productivity, equipment utilization, and material usage.
• Ensure work is performed according to plans, specifications, contract requirements, and approved construction methods.
• Identify field conflicts, constructability issues, and potential schedule impacts and develop solutions.
• Manage daily jobsite priorities and adjust resources as project conditions change.
• Monitor project costs and assist with forecasting, change orders, and cost-control efforts.
• Assist with project closeout, punch-list activities, final inspections, and turnover.
• Coordinate equipment maintenance, mobilization, and utilization to maximize production.
• Review subcontractor performance and ensure work is completed according to contract requirements.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, owners, inspectors, subcontractors, and vendors.
• Maintain accurate daily reports, productions records, equipment reports, and project documentation.
• Lead jobsite safety efforts and ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety requirements.
• Conduct regular site inspections to verify quality, progress, and compliance.
• Perform general mathematical calculations and understand basic measurements related to project scope.
• Participate in project meetings and provide clear progress updates to management.
• Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
• 10+ years of civil construction experience, with progressively increasing responsibility.
• Previous experience as a Construction Manager, General Superintendent, Senior Superintendent, Project Superintendent, or similar leadership role.
• Medium to Large project experience ($10M+) is required.
• Experience managing heavy equipment, including excavators, dozers, graders, loaders, rollers, scrapers, and haul trucks.
• Experience with project process workflow and development of project work breakdown structures.
• Demonstrated experience managing field construction activities and subcontractors.
• Experience with large-scale infrastructure or commercial civil projects preferred.
• Project Management Professional (PMP), Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Construction Manger (CCM), or other relevant certifications preferred.

SKILLS / KEY COMPETENCIES

• Working knowledge of surveying, construction layout, grading, excavation, underground utilities, concrete, asphalt, and structural construction.
• Proven ability to manage multiple crews, subcontractors, and construction activities simultaneously.
• Strong knowledge of construction safety practices and OSHA requirements.
• Strong leadership, communications, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with customers and employees at all levels.
• Effective negotiation and contract management skills to represent the company with outside agencies.
• Ability to read, understand, and interpret contract documents, plans, drawings, sketches, such as scopes of work, and project schedule.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction/project-management software.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
• Ability to coordinate effectively with owners, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, and field personnel.
• Strong skills in construction planning and scheduling, budget and cost control, safety management, Quality assurance, quality control, contract administration, risk identification and mitigation, problem solving and decision making.
• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with customers and employees at all levels.
• Exercise discretion and independent judgment when handling day-to-day information.
• Must be proactive and self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities.
• Must be able to work non-routine hours when necessary.
• Must have a valid, unexpired driver’s license.
• Ability and willingness to travel as required for out-of-town travel assignments.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Will work in an office and job site setting (indoors/outdoors).
• Must be able to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas.
• Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
• Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity.
• Constantly perform repeating motions that may include feet, leg, wrists, hands and/or fingers.
• Frequently communicate with other members of the team. Must be able to exchange accurate information in a clear manner.
• Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 25 pounds.
