JOB SUMMARY

The front-end loader operator is responsible for operating a loader equipped with scoops, shovels, or buckets to lift and transport loose materials

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Operates the front-end loader and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on equipment
  • Moves levers to lower and tilt bucket and drives front –end loader forward to force the bucket into bulk materials
  • Moves levers to raise and tilt bucket when filled, drives vehicle to work site, and moves levers to dump materials
  • Move levers, depress foot pedals, and turn dials to operate power machinery, such as power shovels, stripping shovels, scraper loaders, or backhoes
  • Become familiar with digging plans, machine capabilities and limitations, and with efficient and safe digging procedures
  • Observe hand signals, grade stakes, or other markings when operating machines so that work can be performed to specifications
  • Ensure compliance of all safety procedures and policies while promoting company’s safety culture
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • At least 3 years’ experience operating front end loader and heavy equipment

 

SKILLS / KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of highways, roads, sewers, and bridges
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgement when handling day to day information
  • Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities
  • Ability to work cooperatively across all levels delivering on commitments – results oriented
  • Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet department targets and deadlines
  • Ability to work non-routine hours, when necessary
  • Ability and willingness to travel as required

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
  • Ability to operate job related tools
  • Constantly perform repeating motions that may include feet, leg, wrists, hands and/or fingers
  • Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help
  • Ability to frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions
