| JOB SUMMARY |
The instrument apprentice3 assists and supports journeyman instrument fitters and technicians in installing, repairing, maintaining, inspecting, and calibrating instruments used to measure and control variables such as pressure, flow, temperature, motion, force, and chemical composition, using precision instruments and hand tools.
| ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS |
- Carries tools and materials, cleans parts, and work areas
- Drill holes in masonry or structural steel for installation of instruments, using electric and pneumatic tools
- Cut, bend, and install tubing related to instrumentation
- Removes, dismantles, and assembles instruments using hand tools
- Measure, reads blueprints, must be able to use square, measuring tape and ruler
- Ensure compliance of all safety procedures and policies while promoting company’s safety culture
- Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned
| EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS |
- High School Diploma or GED required
- At least 1 year experience as an instrument apprentice
| SKILLS / KEY COMPETENCIES |

- Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in construction
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Exercise discretion and independent judgement when handling day to day information
- Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities
- Ability to work cooperatively across all levels delivering on commitments – results oriented
- Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to work under pressure to meet department targets and deadlines
- Ability to work non-routine hours, when necessary
- Ability and willingness to travel as required
| PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS |
- Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas
- Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
- Ability to operate job related tools
- Constantly perform repeating motions that may include feet, leg, wrists, hands and/or fingers
- Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help
