JOB SUMMARY

The Boilermaker 1 performs maintenance and installs equipment related to various types of towers, heat exchanges, heaters, and plant piping to blueprint specifications, using power tools and hand tools.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Design, install, and repair boilers used to heat water for generating electric power or providing heat in refineries
  • Attach water tubes, stacks and liners, safety and check valves, and water and pressure gauges
  • Connect fire tubes to head or water tubes to drain and headers of boilers
  • Drill and tap holes for installation of studs
  • Tighten bolts to assemble frames, using power or hand wrenches
  • Bolts or screws accessories such as manholes, hand holes, fans, gauges, and valves to vessels
  • Replaces defective parts, using power wrenches prying bars or hand tools
  • May perform general piping work such as line breaking, installing blinds, gaskets
  • May install equipment internals, packings, catalysts, and desiccants in vessels.
  • Inspect, clean, maintain and repair equipment
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools needed in construction
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks
  • Ensure compliance of all safety procedures and policies while promoting company’s safety culture
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • At least 3 years’ experience as a boilermaker
  • NCCER is required

 

SKILLS / KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of towers, heaters, exchangers, and refinery piping
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgement when handling day to day information
  • Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities
  • Ability to work cooperatively across all levels delivering on commitments – results oriented
  • Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet department targets and deadlines
  • Ability to work non-routine hours, when necessary
  • Ability and willingness to travel as required

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
  • Ability to operate job related tools
  • Constantly perform repeating motions that may include feet, leg, wrists, hands and/or fingers
  • Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help
