JOB SUMMARY

The transportation of construction and heavy equipment to and from job sites will be the main responsibility for this position.  This position requires excellent driving skills, knowledge of DOT regulations, and the ability to work safely in a fast-paced environment.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Safely transport heavy equipment, machinery, and construction materials to and from job sites using lowboy, flatbed, or specialized trailers.
  • Load, secure, transport, and unload equipment in accordance with DOT regulations and company safety standards.
  • Conduct pre-trip, post-trip, and routine vehicle inspections; report maintenance or repair needs promptly.
  • Verify load weights, dimensions, permits, and route requirements for oversized or overweight loads.
  • Coordinate with dispatch, project managers, and field personnel to ensure timely deliveries.
  • Maintain accurate driver logs, inspection reports, fuel records, and delivery documentation.
  • Assist with loading and unloading equipment when necessary, including operating ramps, chains, binders, and tie-down equipment.
  • Perform basic maintenance and cleaning of assigned truck and trailer.
  • Follow all federal, state, and local transportation laws and company policies.
  • Represent the company professionally when interacting with customers, contractors, and the public.
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of experience hauling heavy equipment, oversized loads, or construction machinery (preferred).
  • Experience operating lowboy, flatbed, or specialized equipment trailers.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations, load securement requirements, and permit procedures.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment for loading and unloading

 

SKILLS / KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Familiarity with construction job sites and equipment.
  • Mechanical aptitude for identifying minor equipment or vehicle issues.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with customers and employees at all levels
  • Ability to safely load and unload heavy equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, skid steers, loaders, and cranes.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgement when handling day-to-day information.
  • Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities.
  • Must be able to work non-routine hours, when necessary.
  • Ability and willingness to travel as required for out-of-town travel assignments.

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas.
  • Ability to stand/drive for long periods of time, which may consist of 8 or more hours.
  • Perform repeating motions with feet, leg, wrists, hands and/or fingers to include walking, standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting, bending, gripping, climbing.
  • Ability to frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to operate field equipment (e.g., ladder, shovel)
  • Work will include moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds.
