JOB SUMMARY

 

The primary duty of the Safety Manager is to provide a safe working environment for company personnel, subcontract personnel, owner personnel and the public working in an industrial facility. The Safety Manager is responsible for promoting all elements of the companies Safety Program with coordination from the projects Superintendent, Foreman, Project Manager, and the Safety Director.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

  • Interface with clients and HSE Management.
  • Champions and enforces policies to establish a culture of health and safety.
  • Prepare for and conduct all weekly safety meetings at designated sites.
  • Inspect specified areas for fire-prevention equipment and other safety and first aid supplies.
  • Test working areas for noise, toxic, and other hazards, using decibel meter, gas detector, and light meter.
  • Generate report of findings during tests with recommendations for corrective action.
  • Communicate with appropriate field personnel any observed or anticipated safety concerns.
  • Implement and remain familiar with the jobsite emergency medical response requirements for dealing with jobsite injuries.
  • Investigate accidents or incidents to ascertain causes and report to management.
  • Recommend solutions to causes for incidents, improvement opportunities or new preventive measures and updating safety program.
  • Maintain all required recordkeeping including but not limited to reports relating to injuries, accidents, incidents and near misses.
  • Maintain all environmental issue records including but not limited to Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and test monitoring results.
  • Maintain all required job-site postings.
  • Prepares monthly reports and statistical comparisons of the project’s safety performance.
  • Monitor changes to compliance laws.
  • Generate and maintain accurate job aid for duties assigned.
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

 

  • High School Diploma or GED required. College degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience preferred in safety management or equivalent position required
  • Valid and current certifications in first aid, CPR and OSHA 30 hour (construction preferred)
  • VPP preferred

  • Must be proactive and plan accordingly, self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities
  • Strong multi-tasking ability
  • Strong analytical skills and mechanical aptitude are required for troubleshooting and implementing improvement plans
  • Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet department targets and deadlines
  • Familiar with all relevant local, state, and federal laws
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
  • Must possess a current and valid driver’s license and be insurable

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Frequently required to use hands and arms, stand, walk, sit, climb, stoop, kneel or crouch
  • Will work in an indoor and outdoor setting
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
  • Ability to operate field equipment (e.g., ladder, shovel)
  • Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery (e.g., calculator, copy machine, printer)
  • Constantly perform repeating motions that may include wrists, hands and/or fingers
  • Frequently communicate with other members of the team. Must be able to exchange accurate information in a clear manner
  • Work will include moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds
