JOB SUMMARY

The broom/sweeper operator is responsible for performing traffic control and operating the equipment used to remove debris, including broken pavement, asphalt and concrete millings, mud and construction materials or highway debris build-up

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Operate the broom/sweeper and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner
  • Maintain logs of working hours or of vehicle service or repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on equipment
  • Ensure compliance of all safety procedures and policies while promoting company’s safety culture
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Ability to pass a DOT physical
  • Valid Class A driver’s license with Air Brake Endorsement
  • Good Driving record
  • At least 3 years’ experience in asphalt, paving, highway, bridge, sewer, and road construction

  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of highways, roads, sewers, and bridges
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgement when handling day to day information
  • Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities
  • Ability to work cooperatively across all levels delivering on commitments – results oriented
  • Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet department targets and deadlines
  • Ability to work non-routine hours, when necessary
  • Ability and willingness to travel as required

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
  • Ability to operate job related tools
  • Constantly perform repeating motions that may include feet, leg, wrists, hands and/or fingers
  • Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help
