JOB SUMMARY
The Instrument Analyzer Technician is responsible for the maintenance, calibration, and repair of analyzers and instrumentation systems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Calibrate, repair, and maintain O2, CO2, and CO analyzers, pH probes, and gas chromatography systems.
- Configure and calibrate a range of field instruments using 475 Field Communicator.
- Perform routine inspections, testing, and troubleshooting on analyzer instruments to maintain their accuracy and reliability.
- Install, set up, and commission new analyzers and other instrumentation systems, ensuring they meet all specifications.
- Interpret and work from blueprints, P&IDs, and schematic wiring diagrams to ensure precise installation and maintenance.
- Efficiently diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair issues associated with analyzer instruments, electrical systems, and process controls.
- Disassemble instruments to identify causes of malfunction and ensure rapid, effective repairs.
- Conduct necessary testing on controls, regulating factors like current flow, timing cycles, pressure, and temperature as per specifications.
- Adhere to NFPA 70E standards to maintain a safe work environment and follow all applicable environmental, health, and building codes required by federal, state, local, and refinery regulations.
- Cut, bend, and install tubing related to instruments, following all safety and compliance standards.
- Ensure meticulous documentation of all maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting activities.
- Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or GED required, associate’s degree or technical certification in Instrumentation Technology or related field preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in installation, troubleshooting, and calibration of industrial analyzers and instrumentation systems.
- Experience with O2, CO2, and CO analyzers, pH measurement, and gas chromatography preferred.
- NCCER Certification and relevant industry certifications preferred (ISA Certified Control Systems Technician, NFPA 70E, Hazardous Area Electrical Certification, etc.)
SKILLS / KEY COMPETENCIES
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in construction
- Proficiency with a variety of I&E tools, meters, and calibration equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and technical schematics.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Exercise discretion and independent judgement when handling day to day information
- Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities
- Ability to work cooperatively across all levels delivering on commitments – results oriented
- Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to work under pressure to meet department targets and deadlines
- Ability to work non-routine hours, when necessary
- Ability and willingness to travel as required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- This position will be performed outdoors exposed to heat and humidity, cold, rain, and around heavy traffic areas.
- Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
- Ability to operate job related tools
- Constantly perform repeating motions that may include feet, leg, wrists, hands and/or fingers
- Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help
