JOB SUMMARY
The laborer will perform tasks involving physical labor at construction sites.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- May control traffic near, in or around work zones
- Clean or prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards
- May perform paint preparation such as chipping and cleaning areas to be painted
- May chip out existing concrete with a jack hammer
- May set, form, and pour concrete
- May repair tires for various vehicles
- May load, unload, or identify building materials, machinery, or tools, distributing them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans or specifications
- May do excavation work such as digging with a shovel and other hand tools
- Perform daily maintenance and safety checks
- Ensure compliance of all safety procedures and policies while promoting company’s safety culture
- Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or GED required
- At least 2 years’ experience as a laborer
SKILLS / KEY COMPETENCIES
- Working knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Exercise discretion and independent judgement when handling day to day information
- Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities
- Ability to work cooperatively across all levels delivering on commitments – results oriented
- Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to work under pressure to meet department targets and deadlines
- Able to work non-routine hours, when necessary
- Ability and willingness to travel as required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas
- Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
- Ability to operate job related tools
- Constantly perform repeating motions that may include feet, leg, wrists, hands and/or fingers
- Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help
- Ability to frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions
