JOB SUMMARY

The Painter2 cleans surfaces of metal or hard composition objects to remove scale, sand, paint, grease, tar, or dirt or prepare specified finish using abrasive blasting equipment.  Prepares wood and metal surfaces for painting, and paints equipment, parts, machinery, buildings, and other working areas using a spray gun, brush, and rollers.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Shovel or pour abrasives of specified grade into machine hipper
  • Mask specified areas of object to protect from sandblasting
  • Regulate pressure and composition of abrasive mixture flowing through nozzle
  • Directs blast or flow of abrasive laden air, gas, or liquid over surface to be blasted
  • Reads work order or receives instructions verbally
  • Prepares surface, using method of appropriate for surface to painted
  • May fill cavities and dents with putty to attain smooth surface
  • Selects and mixes coating liquid to produce desired color, according to specifications using paddle or mechanical mixer
  • May erect scaffolding or set up ladder to perform tasks above ground level
  • Apply paint to surface using a spray gun, brush, or roller
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks
  • Ensure compliance of all safety procedures and policies while promoting company’s safety culture
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • At least 2 years’ experience as a painter/blaster

 

SKILLS / KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Must have knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in construction
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Knowledge of arithmetic
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgement when handling day to day information
  • Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities
  • Ability to work cooperatively across all levels delivering on commitments – results oriented
  • Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet department targets and deadlines
  • Ability to work non-routine hours, when necessary
  • Ability and willingness to travel as required

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
  • Ability to operate job related tools
  • Constantly perform repeating motions that may include feet, leg, wrists, hands and/or fingers
  • Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help
