JOB SUMMARY

The Project Controls Engineer is responsible for overseeing and managing the planning, scheduling, cost control, and progress measurement of large-scale industrial construction projects. The role involves working closely with project management, accounting, procurement, and construction teams to ensure that projects are delivered successfully.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules using advanced scheduling tools (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project).
  • Ensure all project activities are logically sequenced and scheduled, with clear critical paths and milestones.
  • Monitor and update schedules regularly to reflect changes in scope, progress, and project conditions.
  • Develop and implement cost control processes and systems to track project budgets, expenditures, and forecasts.
  • Monitor project costs, analyze variances, and report on financial performance.
  • Prepare cost estimates and perform cost analysis for project budgeting and forecasting.
  • Establish and maintain systems for tracking project progress against the baseline plan.
  • Prepare and present regular progress reports to project stakeholders, highlighting key performance indicators (KPIs) such as schedule variance, cost variance, and earned value metrics.
  • Facilitate regular project status meetings to review progress and address any issues or delays.
  • Identify potential risks to project schedule, cost, and quality, and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Perform risk analysis and maintain a risk register, ensuring all risks are monitored and managed effectively.
  • Work with the project team to proactively address and resolve issues before they impact project performance.
  • Foster collaboration across departments to ensure alignment of project objectives and timely resolution of issues.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for project control matters, liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Continuously review and improve project control processes and tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Implement lessons learned from previous projects to improve future project performance.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry best practices and technological advancements in project controls.
  • Ensure compliance of all safety procedures and policies (including client’s) while promoting the Company’s safety culture.
  • Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

 

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, business, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in project controls within the industrial construction sector; EPC experience strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of construction industry standards and project management.
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge including at least high proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Experience and proficiency with Primavera P6.

  • Ability to interpret technical documents and drawings
  • Pro-active and self-motivated with a desire to learn

 

Working Conditions

  • Will work in an office and job site setting (indoors/outdoors).
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity.
  • Constantly perform repeating motions that may include feet, leg, wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Frequently communicate with other members of the team. Must be able to exchange accurate information in a clear manner.
  • Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Non-routine hours are required at times
  • On-site role that requires attendance to an office or a job site
