Rigger

JOB SUMMARY

The Heavy Rigger Operator2 assembles rigging to lift and move various equipment and materials.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and materials
• Test rigging to ensure safety and reliability
• Attach loads to rigging to provide support or prepare them for moving, using hand and power tools
• Select gear such as cables, pulleys, and winches, according to load weights and sizes, facilities, and work schedules
• Control movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confines spaces, using chain falls, gin poles, gallows frames, and other equipment
• Generate and maintain accurate job aid for duties assigned
• Ensure compliance of all safety procedures and policies while promoting company’s safety culture
• Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• High School Diploma or GED required
• At least 3 years’ rigging experience around cranes and heavy equipment
• Must pass a written test or have NCCER

• Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
• Ability to work under pressure to meet department targets and deadlines
• Able to work non-routine hours, when necessary

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas
• Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
• Ability to operate job related tools
• Constantly perform repeating motions that may include feet, leg, wrists, hands and/or fingers
• Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds
• Ability to frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions
