Job Summary

The Shop Pipefitter will lay out, assemble, install, or maintain pipe systems, pipe supports, or related hydraulic or pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, or industrial production or processing systems in a fabrication shop or yard. Position qualifies for per diem.

Essential Functions

  • Cut, thread, or hammer pipes to specifications, using tools such as saws, cutting torches, pipe threaders, or pipe benders
  • Lay out full scale drawings of pipe systems, supports, or related equipment, according to blueprints
  • Assemble or secure pipes, tubes, fittings, or related equipment according to specifications, by welding, brazing, cementing, soldering, or threading joints
  • Measure and mark pipes for cutting or threading
  • Inspect, examine, and/or test installed systems or pipelines, using pressure gauge, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods
  • Secures pipe to structures with brackets, clamps, and hangers using hand tools and power tools
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks
  • Ensure compliance of all safety procedures and policies while promoting company’s safety culture
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned

Education and Experience Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years’ experience as a pipefitter
  • NCCER certification for pipefitter required
  • Required to successfully pass a hands-on test

  • Able to work non-routine hours, when necessary

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time which may consist of 8 or more hours
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another constantly perform repeating motions with feet, leg, wrists, hands and/or fingers to include walking, standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting, bending, gripping, climbing
  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs and scaffolds
  • Ability to walk on beams and narrow surfaces at and above ground level
  • Ability to work at various heights wearing fall protection
  • Ability to frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to operate job related tools
  • Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help
